When did you realize that you didn’t choose the SneakHER life, but the SneakHER life chose you?
Whew. Good question. I never really thought about it. I’ve always been into fly kicks regardless if it was a pair of heels, flats, or sneakers. My mom always told me never cheat your feet. My middle daughter is actually the one who convinced me to start DeeSneakerFreak.
She was like mom your collection is really dope (paraphrasing here, lol), I think you should showcase it by starting an IG page. You know kids normally think their parents are not cool, but at that moment my daughter expressed otherwise. I’m like nobody wanna see my wack collection. So we go back and forth and finally I gave in. BAM!!! We start the page Christmas Eve 2019 and I start posting and have been shown love ever since. I’ve connected with sooooo many people. Almost a year passes by before I am added to this group of other female sneakerheads. With my page being a little less than 1 year old at the time, I was so flattered to be included in [the] group with women I have never met, never spoken to outside of picture comments, and are younger than me (99% are,) discussing sneakers ALL Day. It was refreshing to connect with others that understand this lifestyle. At that moment I knew and realized the SneakerHer life chose me.
What is the wildest thing that you have ever done for a pair of kicks?
I don’t really have a wild story. But I finessed my mom one time by telling her I needed money for school fees but it was money for me to buy sneakers instead. I purchased the silver bullets. Omg she would kill me if she found this out, lmao.
What is your favorite sneaker of all time?
Hands down...Air Max 1….I have so many pairs I haven’t worn. I just buy and stack them. Crazy, but it’s what I do. I’m actually waiting on a pair to be delivered now.
Would you trade your entire collection for your Holy Grail?
Hell nah. Every shoe I purchase is a grail to me because I buy what I love, not because it’s hyped. Now, if it’s a hyped cop then that’s a bonus. However, I wish I had a pair of Banned 1s in my collection. I still wouldn’t trade my collection though.
If you had to wear one sneaker for the rest of your life, what would it be and why?
New Balance 992. I’m a tall chick (5’10”) so I need support and comfort ALLLLLLL DAYYYYYY for these feet and knees YA HEAR ME. ALL DAY.
What is the one sneaker that you just can’t get into, but so many people love?
Jordan 3s. I hate them. I’m sorry y’all, Kmsl.
How would describe your SneakHER style?
Eye catching, mind changing, bold, colorful, and chic. There are so many ways I can describe [it] because I dress how I feel and it’s never the same. I’m the sneaker chic that will make you love a pair of sneakers you thought you hated. Now I got you searching the innanet trying to find a pair to purchase, but you’re probably too late and will HAVE to purchase at resale pricing.
What do you hope to see more of from sneaker culture and streetwear for women?
Listen. They gotta stop trying to feed us crumbs from the table. I’m not against using influencers to hype a sneaker, but baby these true women, Black women sneakerheads are really in these streets influencing the people. Give true black women sneakerheads a chance. We are the backbone to this sneaker shit. That’s why our style is constantly stolen and we are rarely given credit. Why steal when you can simply hire and get a better result with the hair, the clothes, AND the sneakers. There are so many black female creatives out there that are lit in real LIFE and passionate about this without the check. Soooooo imagine if given an opportunity to shine they would turn this bih out.
