SneakHER Style
When did you realize that you didn’t choose the SneakHER life, but the SneakHER life chose you?
In 2002 I realized the SneakerHer life chose me when I discovered Niketalk.com, which led me on a mission to NYC to purchase the sneakers that started it all for me! It was a pair of Nike Co.Jp dunk lows in a red and black colorway. Nineteen years later lol, they are still sitting in my closet in the original box!
What is the wildest thing that you have ever done for a pair of kicks?
The wildest thing happened recently. So the Air Max 90 Bacon was one of my grails. When they rereleased I was stuck at work and couldn’t go to a local sneaker spot to try and cop a pair. To make a long story short I asked my mom to stand in line for me lol!! Needless to say she came back with a W!!!! She is the Real MVP and the best mother ever!!
What is your favorite sneaker of all time?
The Nike dunk low. It’s such a versatile and classic kick and super easy to style!
Would you trade your entire collection for your Holy Grail?
That’s a tough one!! I couldn’t trade my entire collection for a grail! I think I would have to love that grail from a distance lol!! Majority of the kicks in my collection are special to me in some form of fashion[sic].
If you had to wear one sneaker for the rest of your life, what would it be and why?
It would be Air Jordan 1 Mid Chicago Patent Leather from 2003. They are my favorite beaters and I can’t seem to let them go! I wear them all the time so I can see myself rocking this pair for the rest of my life!
What is the one sneaker that you just can’t get into, but so many people love?
Vans!!! I like them when I see other people rocking them. But I just can’t get jiggy with them. A few years ago I purchased a pair and only wore them twice and I gave them away. I guess they are not really my style!
How would describe your SneakHER style?
Pretty much I wear what l like. My sneaker style is definitely versatile I love new and classic kick silhouettes, OG colorways, bright colors and bold patterns. Majority of collection consist of Nike and Adidas but I do own other brands too!
What do hope to see more of from sneaker culture and streetwear for women?
I would love to see more black women of all shades and sizes [given] the opportunities to tell their stories and collaborate with sneaker brands. Black women play a major part in shaping streetwear and sneaker culture. But we are often overlooked and undervalued/not respected. When it comes to women’s exclusive releases I wish the majority of female sneakerheads have an actual chance to cop the kicks made specifically for us.
