A Kreative Konversation With NerdStar_1
BGK: How did your customizing journey begin?
NW: Really because of Rona. I am always so busy, it was the first time since college where I truly sat down. I picked up my interest in art a little before but a lot after. As I attended YouTube university, I thought what better way to blend two loves together then custom kicks.
BGK: How would you describe your creative process?
NW: I have to be in a vibe, like a set a whole scene. I smoke one, light a candle, have a go to playlist, then sit with my sketch pad and create. Sometimes though my best ideas come from when I'm doing other things and my mind drifts to a dope pair I'd love to see.
BGK: The mind of a creative is always busy, where do you find inspiration?
NW: Everywhere! I love watching random videos of custom kicks now. I have been spending a lot of time at museums bc of Rona so going to the Detroit Institute of Art or the museum for contemporary art has been inspirational and keeps me thinking about the next combination of colors I want to see together or the next set of images and style I want to experiment with.
BGK: What is your go to album to get the creative juices flowing?
NW: I don't have an album but I have a playlist on Spotify with over 6hrs of songs called 'Its A Whole Vibe'. Its a mix of indie artists of diff genres and its literally just a whole vibe.
BGK: How would you describe your personal style?
NW: My personal style is my attempt at gender fluidity with an emphasis on still being a womxn. I love retro styles and not just in my kicks but in my clothing. Bright colors excite me. There use to be a time where my kicks were the dopest thing on my body but as I have gotten more comfortable with myself, that’s no longer the case.
BGK: The way we view our collection, is always very personal. With that in mind, what sneaker do you consider the most exclusive in your collection and why?
NW: Hmm, right now I'd have to say my multi-color Sacais just because the past year has been OD on how many people are into kicks. People were but not as much back when they dropped so I never really see anyone with them. I love it
BGK: What is the one shoe that you passed on and immediately regretted?
NW: The Off-White Sail 4s. I wasn’t pressed for them and didn’t even try but now when I see them on someone’s feet I automatically get jealous and think of different outfits to pair with them. I've even thought about playing with some dye to achieve that color because its so clean.
BGK: What is one sneaker that you would like to add to your collection?
NW: DS 1997 Jordan 13 playoffs . This was my first sneaker that really made me fall in love with sneakers. I just grabbed a pair from 2011 and they've only done that one rerelease.
BGK: If you could re-design one sneaker, what would it be and why?
NW: I would love to redesign the Jordan 2. Idk the uniqueness of it speaks to me. I have seen some beautiful pairs and the quality never wavers.
BGK: What is your dream collaboration?
NW: Of course a colorway drop with Nike is always on the list. I'd love to work with some of the smaller black owned brands though and bring different styles to life in both sneakers and fashion. Maybe look at adding some tech into a sneaker (I am a software developer by day)
BGK: What would you like the people to know?
NW: I'm still learning, growing and getting better. There are so many dope things you can do with customizing sneakers and I am barely scratching the surface. You see something crazy, send it my way! I love figuring out how things are doing and recreating with my own hint of swag.
